ENSCO Press Release

System Provides Professionals Solution to Increase Safety, Reduce Cost and Lessen Weather Impacts to Critical Operations

Cocoa Beach, Fla./Falls Church, Va., November 1, 2004 – ENSCO, Inc., a diversified research, development and information technology company, introduced its latest weather solution, MetWise™, today at the Air Traffic Control Association's (ATCA) Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. The system will be demonstrated in ENSCO’s booth (#2208) today through Weds. Nov. 3 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

MetWise can be used to visualize all types of meteorological information, including visibility, cloud cover, lightning, wind, and upper air measurements, fromsources worldwide. MetWise is designed to fuse weather information from disparate sources to produce stable, repeatable and reliable decision products for meteorologists, dispatchers and traffic flow managers.

All displays and functions are user-configurable. Data can be displayed in multiple layers, vertical cross-sections and grids to analyze data in both space and time simultaneously, for any location or along any flight path. Industry standard off-the-shelf PC-type workstations and servers can easily be scaled to meet single user or high demand operations.

Currently, MetWise is being tailored for the needs of the air traffic control and commercial airline communities. ENSCO has been showcasing the system to weather forecasters, Federal Aviation Administration and air traffic control professionals throughout its development in order to integrate the most needed features into the new system and position the product for immediate acceptance into this market.

MetWise is the most recent of ENSCO’s weather modeling and decision support products, using ENSCO’s Extreme Forecasting® processes of data fusion, analysis and forecast modeling. The product will initially be offered to the aviation community, with plans for future versions tailored to other areas of transportation (including highway, rail and marine), as well as emergency response and additional markets.

ENSCO develops real-time and analytical weather systems that ingest meteorological sensor data and use advanced analytical models and techniques to provide meteorological event and hazard information to increase safety, reduce cost and lessen weather impacts to critical operations.
